Marcel Giroux, producer

Marcel Giroux is a seasoned Canadian film producer. Selected producer credits include Détour (2009), Sylvain Guy’s film noir, official selection, the Golden Goblet Award International Competition at the 13th Shanghai International Film Festival, Jim Donovan's feature film Pure (2005), nominated for best director at the Director’s Guild of Canada Awards and invited by The Director’s Guild of America to screen at its prestigious theater on Sunset Boulevard as part of its “Finders” series ; the International TV series Urban Myth Chillers, starring Omar Sharif - Cesar for Best Actor 2004 - with GTV (formerly Gaumont TV) and Universal Digital Studios ; Liste noire (Black List), top box office in Quebec, #2 in Canada for a Canadian film in 1995; The List (1999), its English remake starring Ryan O’Neal, Ben Gazzara and Madchen Amick, coproduced with Simon Dotan; Julie Hivon’s feature film Crème glacée, chocolat, et autres consolations (2001) premiered at The Montreal World Film Festival 2001; voted Best Canadian Feature Film (by the audience) at the Festival International du Cinéma Francophone en Acadie (2001); most popular French language Canadian film at the Vancouver International Film Festival; Le voleur de Noël (1998), an official coproduction with France; Zie 37 Stagen (1997) Sylvain Guy’s stylish off-beat short comedy which won numerous awards including the Golden Sheaf Award of Excellency for Most Outstanding Film at the Yorkton Short Film & Video Festival, Best Canadian short film at Sudbury’s Cinefest, a Bronze award at the Houston Worldfest, a Certificate of Merit in Chicago, a Silver Award in Brno (Czech Republic), a Golden Award in Huy (Belgium), etc.; Le feu sacré (Circus Passion), a feature length documentary (1994); Stéréotypes (1993), Most promising director (Jean-Marc Vallée) at the Rendez-Vous du Cinéma Québécois, the People's Choice at the Festival International de Courts Métrages de Montréal, the Golden Sheaf Award of Excellency for Most Outstanding Film at the Yorkton Short Film & Video Festival ; Pablo qui court (On The Run) by Bernard Bergeron, (Official competition, 1991 Montreal World Film Festival); La fille du maquignon, (1990). Consulting producer on Jean-Marc Vallée’s The Magical Flowers (Genie Award for best short film in 1996) ; line producer on Kingsborough-Greenlight’s remake of Jack London’s Call of the Wild (1997), as well as on a variety of other productions.

Marcel Giroux’s trademark over the years has been his ability to tap into a network of both young and seasoned writers and filmmakers, and generate original, artistically and commercially driven material. He’s contributed significantly to the nurturing of a burgeoning crop of first-rate Canadian writers, directors and filmmakers. Currently has a diversified slate of projects at various stages of development and production – seeking co-producing, sales and financing opportunities on his projects as well as offering to act as Canadian co-producer on foreign producers' projects.
